Geoffrey Harold Gray

1911 – 2000

We have heard from Mrs Jilly Thwaites, daughter of Geoffrey Harold Gray, a former pupil of Shoreham Grammar School. Geoffrey was born in 1911 and passed away in 2000. Mrs Thwaites has come across some old photos which we are pleased to publish here, with descriptions from Mrs Thwaites:

1.    Mrs Hilda Maud Gray with 2 of her boys, Sidney, born 1904 and Edward, born 1909,

Who died in action with the RAF in 1942

2.    The three Gray boys

3.    Edward Gray, with my father Geoffrey Gray

4.    G.H. Gray in the RAF

5.    1st XI 1926 - My father G. H. Gray is in the front row, on the right

6.    1st XI 1927 - My father G.H. Gray is in the back row, first from the left

7.    2nd XI 1926 - My father G.H. Gray is in the back row, second in from the left

8.    Gray & Brooks Estate Agents

9.    An old postcard of the school (taken from the church)

10.  View of the front of the school

11.  Old Shorehamers v School 1933 - My father G.H.Gray is on one row down from the back, with someone’s hands on his shoulders. In the same row, 4th from left is Graham F. Brooks, who later (after my father served in the RAF in the war) became his partner in his estate agents firm, thus changing it from G.H. Gray to Gray & Brooks. Then in the 2nd row up, 2nd from the left (with something in his button hole) is Michael (Mike) E. Starkey, who later married my father's sister Joyce, thus becoming his brother in law.

Many thanks to Mrs Thwaites for uncovering these old photos and sending them to us.
