GCSE Results Summer 2016
GCSE results at Shoreham College are even better than last year's and we are proud of our students. They have worked hard and deserve their success.
The ability range of our pupils is broad as we are not academically selective and yet they produced a fine set of results, with 92.31% of our pupils achieving 5 GCSEs at A*-C and seven of our departments achieving 100% A*-C. This has generated impressive added value overall, over and above standardised predictions, which again places our pupils significantly above national averages achieved in the state maintained sector, including academies.
It is particularly pleasing to see that our pupils achieved just over 82% A*-C, with English and Maths, which is well above national averages and a pleasing 12% above nationally standardised predictions. Clearly our pupils performed far better than expected, as they also achieved 20% above predictions, in terms of A*-C, for their year group, across all subjects.
At Shoreham College, as an inclusive school, what is most important is that the pupils' results open doors to the next stages of their careers. Madeline O'Meara, who achieved 8 A*s and As is now on to study A-levels in Early Modern History, Mathematics, Politics and Sociology A-levels at Varndean and Timothy James, who also achieved seven A*s and A will now go on to study Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science at Sussex Downs. Pupils from Shoreham College move on to a range of exciting opportunities: Alasdair Tennent secured what he needed to go to UTC at Silverstone to study for a Baccalaureate in High Performance Technologies (the equivalent of a Certificate in Engineering and 2 A-levels). Hardly able to stifle tears of joy, he said how excited he was to be going to 'the capital of the sport in the UK'. Mrs Tennent said: 'We always believed he could do it and he has.' Lottie Bentham achieved some of the most impressive value added the College has seen, often achieving two or three grades higher than was predicted. Her mother said: 'This is just heaven' and added, 'well, it's just about the staff who have given Lottie so much support - we never thought she would get her Maths.' She is now heading off to A-Levels in Art and Textiles and a BTEC in Drama, at Varndean.
